The Haps!

Sooooooo long time no talksie-poo.

I know you all have been missing my nonsensical ramblings.  So sorry to deprive you.

My kiddies are here!  HEREEEE.  And by my kiddies I do of course mean 193 of my closest and most brilliant mathematician and scientist friends aged 13-17yrs.  It is kind of amazing that (give or take) 386 parents and guardians have entrusted me with their precious snowflakes for 4 weeks.  I can’t imagine my mother ever letting me leave her sight for that long when I was that age.  I also wasn’t brilliant so that might have something to do with it…

But in all reality these students blow my mind.  They are so insanely smart and talented.  They are musicians and athletes and dazzling academics.  I will tell you something, for those who doubt the future generations – I think I can say with certainty that you are wrong.  I have great hope that we can be kinder and smarter and stronger than we are now.  That we can find inventive ways to heal our planet, the problems (health and societal) that plague humanity, and ways to better use the great gifts and talents we each have.  If these are the minds we have to work with I know that we can move forward.

If by some crazy twist of fate you haven’t seen this video yet I highly recommend it.  Intriguing and inspiring.

Enough of that mushiness.

Besides the kiddies coming we have also had many many a package coming in.  24 Galileoscopes.  39 UC Davis Vet Med Lab Coats.  Albino frogs from Florida. etc etc

And these:

Smurfs?!  nope - CAKE POPS!

Creepy or Delicious?

Or Both!

What are those you ask?  Tiny bodiless people?  Oh those, my friends, are cake pop heads.  Who ever thought you should eat a tiny piece of cake in the shape of a human head was kind of a sick individual don’t you think?  Freaky and yet surprisingly sweet and delicious.  A little too sweet maybe (apparently fondant skin is a little sugary) but really not bad considering the (let's be honest) terrifying exterior.

In other news in the past month-ish we have celebrated the following:
  • One best friendsies quarter of a century horsie riding birthday
  • One Mini nephew in-law’s baby blessing
  • One 4th of July patriotic event
  • One UC Davis COSMOS Program Opening Day
  • One “little” brother’s 22nd birthday
Tres Horse Amigos

Pancho and the other horse who's name I can't recall..

Birthday Boy!

Phewf we are so cool and fab.

5 (approximate) weeks until So-Cal vacation!  To that I give a big Wiggity W00t!

I also have to throw a big thumbs up to the universe for this fabulous “unseasonably” cool weather.  While it may be a sign of horrendous climate change I am currently enjoying it.  (And I promise to encourage my brilliant students to look into that climate change thing…)  Another thumbs up to God, Buddha, Guardian Angels, Amazing Co-workers, Fabulous SP’s and Friends for keeping me sane during my (almost) daily panic attacks that ensued prior to and during the first week of the smart kid program.  (and lets not lie they will probably continue until all 193 of them are home safe and sound)

Good Juju out.  Good Juju in!

Happy Tues Friends!

Nothing says summer like Rocket Pops!

19 days and counting.

You know when a deadline is creeping up on you like a sneaky younger sibling who is coming around a corner trying to scare the ever loving sh*t out of you?  Well I’m having that moment at work today because I realized today that the students are coming in less than 4 work weeks.  Dear god of organization please you help me now.  XOXO Sarah.  Luckily things have been going relatively well at work lately and perhaps things will be somewhat ready before the kiddos show up (current taking my imaginary giant fist and knocking it against an imaginary giant piece of wood).  Good thing my coworkers are hilarious today we may or may not have measured one of their heads'…

…using blue tape and a ruler.

ANYWAY…

Incase you forgot (if you did you fail) this past weekend was fathers day (or daddy’s day or dada’s day if you live in my world).  Sadly mi papi lives 500ish miles away and thus we celebrated via phone and will celebrate via yummy food and love when SP and I visit later (post kiddo program).  SP and I also got to eat dinner with her fabulous dada – I don’t think they call him that but he is an honorary dada in my world.  And per his request (and in what appears to be true SP family tradition) we ate meat.  Good old meaty mc meat on a plate with fatty bread and potatoes.  For someone who is clinically addicted to carbs I was like a pig in heaven – or maybe just a pig.  I may or may not have eaten an entire bread basket myself and then essentially couldn’t eat my dinner.  Oh well.  But it was nice to celebrate the daddy’s in our worlds.

This weekend SP andI  also did nothing.  Sweet wonderful nothing.  And got groceries but that’s not part of the nothing.  Seriously though I think I slept past 7am on both Saturday and Sunday – WHHHAAATT?  Good thing since this morning I woke up at 5am and never went back to sleep, oh body why you hate me so much?!

This week is le busy, but its so nice because new and old friends are coming out of the woodwork and it makes me feel so social and loved and friendy-ish.  And more baby time is coming up in my future and thus sarah = happy person.

The only thing that is not so happy.  Today’s high of 98 degrees.  Fine summer, I knew you had to come sometimes.  And there goes my life savings to Air Conditioning – but dear sweet ice cold heaven, how I love you.  (pretty sure there is an entire post dedicated to AC in my near future)

In celebration of all things fun and summery SP and I made POPSICLES.  And in true Sarah fashion we got rocket pop makers (mostly because I literally couldn’t find any others…)  That's zero calories of good-ness right there!

YUM!

Wherin I pop on my soapbox for a moment...

Sweet Sparklers!  and yes I stole this from the inernet - So credit to wherever credit is due...

***As a disclaimer – I haven’t been planning this since I was 4.***

At my wedding I want sparklers, and margaritas and laughter.  I want hugs and dancing and regular food.  At my wedding I want love and joy and cupcakes.  I want candid photos and comfortable (and pretty) clothes.  I want champagne and sparkles and friends and family and friends that are family.

I don’t want complicated or fussy or stressful.  At my wedding I don’t want traditional (fat chance of that huh?!) and  I don’t want to worry about who sits next to who, in fact I don’t want people to sit at all – I want them to eat and dance.

At my wedding I want joy, not sorrow, fear or confusion.

Most of all I want my wedding (not right now, calm down!) – legal or not.  But legal would be better.

Last night I made tortilla chips... and other super awesome things

A few super cool things about me and life etc.

1) I made tortilla chips last night.  Not like made the corn meal and stuff, but like baked up some tortillas and I'm not going to lie they were the BOMB DIGGITY!!!!  Like so crunchy and salty and yum yums in my mouth.

2)  The dog has stopped peeing in the house again due to the strict schedule she is on now.  Maybe she'll learn to pee and poo on command?!  That could the awesome.  Although what really could be more awesome than the carpet not smelling like dog pee all the time?!  Nothing I tell you.  Nothing.  Well except maybe my home made tortilla chips.

3) The high school students invade my program and my life in 25 days.  That is a 2 and a 5 people.  That is less than a month.  HOLY MOLY CAROLLY.  Running a program is real scary like.  I'm not going to lie, I can't wait to meet the genius kids, they are the best part of this whole experience.

Don't worry though...

4) I ran 4 whole miles on Sunday.  That's probably the most I've run since I ran a half marathon last year.  So while 4 miles pales in comparison to 13.1 I'll take it for right now.  4 miles is like almost on the way to 13.1 right?  Right - marathon running here I come (too bad it went from 56 - 96 degrees in a week - literally in one week)

5) SP and I are going to so-cal in August.  So now disneyland, the beach, the wildanimal park and much much more is in our future - got to keep my eye on the prize.  It will be the longest we've left the dog with someone else - I'm having separation anxiety already.  But a real vacation sounds pretty good right about now.  Only 9ish weeks (ughhhhhhhhhh)

And that's the haps for today.  Funny stories are coming.  Like the story of the forever famous (infamous golden throne)...

Say WHAT mother nature?!

The weather makes my face do this...
You know how some days you just feel really good for no reason in particular, I’m having one of those days and its so lovely.

Work is suuuuper busy because the kiddies come to my super cool program in just over a month (AAACKITY ACK ACK) but I finally have come to some kind of peace in myself that everything will be fine and I just keep plugging along.  And I’ve realized that in the big scheme of things it ain’t no thang.

SP and I have some activities a happen’ this weekend so that’s exciting.  Tonight is a going away party for some good friends who are moving off to North Carolina which I think is real stupid (no offense North Carolina) but it’s pretty exciting…Congrats Dr. Matt!!!  We are sad to lose you but I’ll be calling you when I have weird ailments, fear not.  And hopefully his SP, Sean, will also live it up in NC.  I’m sure yall will have the best chickens in town!

Tomorrow there is a little league game in our future (unless of course it is torrentially down pouring) and then there is some fun with the sisters Denks and then a fun filled trip to SP’s stomping grounds!  All of these plans are contingent on mother nature playing along.

Speaking of mother nature since when did I move to the Midwest?  Pretty sure my nerves are oh so not prepared for tornados (NO MORE NATURAL DISASTERS UP IN HERE).  I only just convinced myself that I am not going to die in a giant earthquake (shut up I know it can happen but I don’t want to talk about it) I don’t need to spend a bunch of energy worrying about monster hail and killer twisters (all I can think about is a cow flying through the air).

But nonetheless nothing gonna get me down because the happy vibes are a flowin so bring it on mother nature, you bipolar little witch, because I can layer with the best of them.  Booyah.

Happy weekend friends!  May mama de nature be more stable in your town than she is here…

P.S. I am madly obsessed with livingsocial and groupon.  Jump on the bandwagon people because couponing is oh so chic these days!  More than you want to hear on this topic soon :)

Sunshine happy time palooza.

Apparently I'm really into paloozas lately.

And cooking.  Domesticity I am thy mistress.  But seriously, I'm no chef.  However lately I have the inner yearnings to be one.  Like one of those people that can whip up something insanely delectable.  Unfortunately my dire need for immediate food satisfaction has been killing my inner chef lately and has been resulting in SP and I eating things like instant couscous and frozen green beans for dinner.  What did people do prior to frozen foods?  And microwaves?  Holy Moly.  Reason number 3,000 why I couldn't be a pioneer.

#2 great thing of the day.  The apartment manager (finally, but who's counting the DAYS) came and installed a screen door to our porch and (supposedly) fixed our tub so that it won't leak anymore.  This would mean that nothing in our bathroom leaks which would be a glorious gift from drought gods, but I'm not holding my breath on that front.

Also apparently we have a lovely 3 day weekend rapidly approaching and one of us (MEMEMEMEME!) is very excited about that prospect.  And the fact that by some miracle of miracles SP and I do not have 99 trillion plans this weekend (maybe I should throw a "yet" on there for good measure).  I am very much looking for some hibernation time - ie i think there should probably be about 24 hours where I do not remove my pajamas, but we'll see.

In the meantime, hanging out with the animales - king louie (the second) at work and destructor at home.

DESTRUCTOR
King Louie Part II

See some of her awesome work from last friday below.

Nothing like getting home from work to THIS!

And then I counted a roll of quarters to make sure dodo did not eat all of them - 10bucks retrieved, phew!

And with that - outsies!

Besos.

A Palooza I Can Really Get Behind

I don't know these people, but clearly this guy knows a good sandwich!

Disclaimer.  I am going to whine.  You've been warned.

Ok so here's what's happening.  Everything.  That's the problem.  There is no down time because there are always 99 activities occurring simultaneously.  This = Very tired very cranky Sarah.  Not to mention that dogbert has now peed in the house 2 times since we returned home from the bro's graduation festivities this weekend (Yay Dan - who will never see this as he is currently celebrating his super awesome graduation from UC Berkley with a 2 week trip to Korea!  but none the less - Congrats!)

And now I have to say something about the idiot drivers on the way to work.  Why do people have to slam on the breaks?  I have actually nearly died 2 times in the last 3 days.  Praise buddha for the big shoulder on the side of the freeway or I definitely would have been rear ended by someone going 85mph.  Seriously, I don't understand.  Why do we go from 85mph to 40mph in 1 min.  Did something jump across 4 lanes of traffic causing you to slam on your breaks?  Did you just wake up and realize that you are driving a car and there is in fact a car in front of you?  Moderate driving people.  Lets all try it together.

In better news.  I joined the gym.  Which sounds like crappy news (because really wouldn't everybody just rather sit on the couch and eat ice cream) but is actually good news because now I am killing myself just a little bit slower. ;)  Although I have to say going from doing nearly nothing to doing a 45min spin class may not have been the best idea.  And despite the considerable amount of padding on le booty, it did not like that bike seat - ouch.  But I feel good.  And I think working out at lunch is a good option for the girl who can't seem to get up in the morning and doesn't want to work out in the 800 degree heat after work.

In case you hadn't noticed it is actually graduation palooza right now.  So in order to take part in said palooza - SP and I will be attending our second graduation of the season this coming Saturday.  This one is for my bestie best friend Ms. Denks - who will be completing a Masters in Public Health and is then planning to save the world.  Glad somebody is because god knows you are going to find me sitting on the couch eating ice cream.  Ironically her graduation falls on the day the world is going to end according to the giant billboards on my way to work.  All I ask is that it ends after the delicious lunch we are supposed to have.

It is also BABY PALOOZA.  This is a palooza I can really get behind.  If you know me you know I love me some babies.  I'm trying not to bug SP too much about having some of our own right now (because it really is not a good time with her still being in school and us being poor and all that) but its hard when I feel like the WHOLE world is pregnant.  One friend from school just had her little yum yum 2 weeks ago and she looks gorgeous and edible.  And SP's brother is having a baby (well his wife is having the baby but you get the idea) and pretty sure that little dude is coming any day now.  And SP's sister is preggo le eggo too.  And one of my favorite coworkers is also a few months into the baby baking.  Hopefully I can borrow some babies soon.  And some little people because I really do like when they walk and talk and stuff.  And despite the picture above I do not eat them - but I get pretty close.

I don't know where this post is going.  Probably nowhere (just like me?)  So now I will end it.  And hopefully someday I will put up some pics for your people to see.  But I'm not making any promises cause clearly I don't keep em!

Happy Thursday Lovelies.
