Vday – latesies and stuff

Yall know I’m not that romantic.  I mean a bunch of flowers or a cupcake or a quick trip to your local target is about as romantic as it gets around these parts.  Maybe dinner (not of the frozen variety)

But I decided that this valentines day I would do a little something (emphasis on the little)

So I got SP a kit kat heart like a week before vday and you know what we most DEF ate that entire thing about 5 days before actual vday (whoopsie baloopsie)  On actual valentines day I was like, um should I do something?  I mean I already got the kit kat heart how much hearty-ness does one need?  And then I said to myself, self, get it together and show this love holiday some lovin.  And so I threw on my adorable apron (it really is adorable, I’ll have to show it to you sometime) and I made my lady some heart shaped pizza.

And I’m not going to lie it was A-to-the-mazing. Even if they were a touch on the lopsided side.

I also made this :)
(and SP forced me to leave it on the table for the week following)

What I didn’t expect was that when I got home (even though SP and I left at the same time that morning) was a surprise from SP and it was so stinkin cute I almost died.  I love flowers, even though they die, and I love love not-roses flowers.  So these were the perfect and there was a ton of chocolate and oh my did we eat it!

And while I am definitely not a valentines convert, I’m sorry I really hate pink with red I’m just not a fan, it was a very cute day and was another sweet lovin moment.

Also this:
Not from valentines, but just cause.

Post. Script. We are now on a juice fast because eating all that chocolate almost killed me.  More on that later…

Hippies and Prayers

I'm not on a liquid diet, I swear...
 Ok you guys.

Where have mason jars been all my life?!
This is definitely one thing them hippies got right! (amongst many other things, I love hippies!)

Like really.

I know there are people out there right now who are like, whatever, I'm super cool and I already knew about the wonders of mason jars and where have you been Sarah?  But apparently this is a really amazingly great trend I missed out on somehow.  They are A-to the mazing.  They don't leak.  Like i put gross juice in them and they DON'T LEAK!!!  You can put hot stuff in them, you can freeze them, you can use them as cups.  They are like tupperware but BETTAH.  And you know what?!  They don't even have any BPA leaching into your food!

If they made them in ginormo size I would get rid of all my tupperware right now and only use mason jars.  I would also move into a tree house.

Anyway...

Life is (mostly) good.  SP and I did a 3 day juice fast.  Which really turned into a 2 and 2/3rds day juice fast because on the 3rd night SP told me she needed to eat food or she "might knife someone"  And since I was the only someone around I opted for the eating of food instead.  So we went out for chinese.  Oh yes you read that right.  We went out for chinese.  Because there is no better way to end a healthy eating couple of days then with some MSG.  and let me tell you a couple of things:
  1. we couldn't even finish the 3 APPETIZERS we ordered
  2. my stomach sounded like it was trying to eat metal
  3. we both had a huge headache immediately afterwards
So i'm pretty convinced.  And am planning to stick with the juice for breakfasts.  And 80% veggies for the rest of meals hopefully.  It's not a huge change from how we were eating before but I am hoping to pull out more and more of the processed foods and go with the more organic, locally grown, fresh foods like the BIG hippie that apparently I really am.

I hate to tell you also.  I went without caffeine for 4 days during "the juicing" and I'm not sure I can live without it.  I mean obviously I could (I did.) but I really enjoy coffee and the ritual in the morning.  So I think I might have to bring that back.  The other habit that I'm hoping to keep is the absurd amount of water I've been drinking lately.  Like no joke I'm pretty sure on the first day I peed every 30mins.  It was kind of ridiculous.  But I know that my body is so much happier when I'm glugging down the agua.

The only sad downside to the juicing (and the week of sickness before that).  My endurance level is way down.  I'm pretty sure there is no way in hell I can run a 10k the first week in Feb without dying so that goal might have to be postponed.  I've been doing some light jogging and walking but I've been le tired.  So maybe I'll still do it if I get a huge burst of energy and start running like a beast in the next few weeks.  Mostly I'm focusing on doing something instead of nothing (or nothing + cookies - which is the worst worst).

And thus ends my tirade in favor of mason jars and juicing.

Christmas Part II and Birthday run-down to come soonsies.  Here's a sneaky peaky:
I did not steal this baby!  Just borrowed :)

A tiny little request:
Please, if you would, pray for my Uncle Sam, who had a stroke this past weekend and then received some poor medical care.  Things are very critical and I am very worried.  I know that any spare prayers, good thoughts or good juju you could spare would make all the difference.

A sneak peak into the new year? or Just when you thought I couldn't get weirder...

So I'm already pretty weird right?  (you don't have to lie, I'm secure in my weirdness)

But this morning SP and I definitely reached a new level of weirdness as we've started "juicing."  I know that the word juice should generally not be put into a verb format, especially when you aren't talking about juicing an orange etc... but you know, you do what you have to do.

I know that juicing is a pretty old concept but its new to me.  And definitely new to SP who grew up in a very meat and potatoes family (I mean I grew up in a pasta and sauce family so it's not like either of us grew up with Jack Lalanne as our grandfathers).

But recently several of my friends have been on some serious health kicks (people going vegetarian and vegan and even juicing etc).  And I like to be alive.  So I'm always interested in new ways to add some healthy to our food "regimen" and some potential years to our lives.

I also watched the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead (which I highly highly recommend everybody watches) which got my juicing wheels a turning.  Now all this being said don't get all preachy on me.  I'm not going to stop eating real food, because peeps, you know I like food...like A LOT.

But.

I am jumping on the bandwagon of this healthy juicing nonsense.

So last night.  SP and I strapped on our big girl boots and went juicer shopping.  (I must divulge that she and I, combined and separately, had already done quite a bit of online reviewing).  And then (at Best Buy of all places) we found this Beaut!  And she was shiny and clean and ready to juice every kind of strange veggie and fruit combo.  (I had to explain to the cashier what it was and what it does...yeahhh...16 year olds who work at Best Buy apparently aren't really into juicing)

After a quicksie-poo trip to the local grocery store to stock (i.e. STUFF) our fridge full of veggies and fruits, SP and I went to bed ready to try our first juice in the morning.

And Drumroll please....TA DA!

Tie dye you ask?!  Juice I say!

That freaky red color comes from beets (not my fav) Overall I would say the first juicing experience was a success.  Minus the fact that it looked like something got slaughtered in the kitchen (beet juice looks freakishly like blood) the juice was fresh, relatively tasty and the juicer was so easy to use and didn't make Kori cower the way that the blender does.

And to add a little TMI to your day - my pee was one SCARY color after this!

Cheers!
