When Christmas lights and Crack mix

Merry Christmas to ALL!  Full Driverpalooza X-mas run down to come soon but in the meantime...

Christmas light date was so fun.  We do it every year and this year was not a let down at all.  The best part is that now that the fam is here we got to do it all over again and again and again.

I think this is the new Chevy Chase house!

This is a moving truck...right!

Also look who has decided that she doesn't hate grandma and grandpa anymore?!  w00t!

Happy Christmas my loves!

Christmas Music Grinch

Stolen from Here.  And No.  Just NO.

Christmas music I just can not get behind:
-Justin Beiber, enough said.
-Any bumping/pumped up version of little drummer boy
-Any version of little drummer boy at all - I just hate that song
-Anything sung by chipmunks, muppets, any kind of real or fake animal, Disney characters.
-Lady Gaga Christmas tree (WHAT IS THAT?  and I LOVE the gaga)

I am the bearer of all things christmassy (except christmas broaches and headbands...yeah, no).  Like I'm loving the decorations and the smelly trees and even the 59,000 treats that are around during the christmas season (my willpower is getting the ultimate test lately).  But there is some really bad christmas music out there.  And I like christmas music...so what does that say....

Tonight SP and I are going on an xmas light date :)  I also want to buy shoes but I think this is problematic for 2 reasons.  1) my father already calls me Imelda Marcos (whateverrrr) and 2) I'm pretty sure SP is not going to go for the xmas lights and shoe shopping are practically the same things argument.  We'll see if I can sweet talk her.

Tomorrow is my last day of work before vacay-christmas-family palooza.  And it is a half day because of a holiday luncheon.

Oh vacation brain, you will be set free soon.

And now per the usual a question for the masses - to nut cracker or not to nut cracker?  Do we subject the less enthusiased to the ballet to get some christmassy-ness on or do we just take the crew to the movies and call it a day?  Discuss.

For better or worse

I made this last week:

It wasn't quite the maiden voyage of the kitchenaid (NAME HER PLEASE, I NEED HELP!) as there was quick batch of chocolate chip cookies prior to this situation.  But dudes (I like to say dudes) Me and kitcheaid we made BREAD.  And It is pretty dern good if I do say so myself.  The fact that I can whip up baked goods on a moments notice my not be so good.  But whatever, I love my kitchenaid.  I love her so much I might marry her! niener niener

Then I saw this on my walk:

Looks like your average run of the mill postal box does it not?!  But don't be fooled good readers - it is in fact some kind of street art installation, as it has no mail slot/door and it gets moved around the city at various times.  I've now seen it on several different street corners.  I love running into the mailbox!

Last full week of work before the fam damily (parents, brother and girlfriend, and 2 northeastern grandparents) descend upon our tiny apartment.  There is much to do prior to the christmas-ing that's about to happen - like oh I don't, about 47 loads of laundry.  Why people, why do I keep waiting until the laundry is to the ceiling to take care of it?!  Laundry issue aside, there is a present mountain to wrap, a house to clean, and a christmas menu to plan.  Anybody got any suggestions (please remember that I only have one small oven/kitchen area - no feasts).  Also I have to figure out how to seat 8 people in a townhouse that really only holds 3 on a good day....oh little house you will be bursting at the seems!  Also is it appropriate to have picnic christmas?  And, while SP and have done all of christmas shopping for everybody else (hence the present mountain) I have yet to do a drip of shopping for somebody pretty importante - SP herself! yikesy yikes!

Besos!

Bery Belated Bloggy Birthday!

Oh no!
Oh my gosh you guys I have committed a horrible crime of blogmannity.

I missed my little bloggy's birthday.

He(she?) is now just over one year old!  (as I write this I realize I'm wasting my life away...and should probably re-evaluate my priorities)

Here's the goal for the next year before blogalicious turns 2.

***Write  more than one post a week***

Do we think we can do this self?!  YES WE CAN!

Because seriously if I don't put my memories here, I have no idea where they will end up.  In the ether somewhere and when I'm old and crinkly and SP is putting on my 5th drool cloth of the day (the one with the sparkles please!) she will be like "remember what it was like in 2011 when we were young and spritely?!"  And then I will say, "no no I don't remember but my bloggity bloo does!"

Happy Baby Blogiversary to me!

Wherin Santa's workshop moved into our apartment

Remember when I told you I was levelheaded (HA)..

Not when it comes to decorating!  And this year I (some how by the grace of all things holy) convinced SP that she should allow me to decorate our tiny apartment within an inch of its life.  Because, my argument went, my family is coming - WHINE.  I mean really I just love christmas decorations.  And SP she just doesn't get it.  Like the whole buying decorations and making your house look kind of like a store window exploded.  But dudes, the smell of christmas tree in the morning is probably the best smell in the world (right after the coffee brewing in the morning of course - because lets be honest that is a sacred experience).

So last weekend (after several fits about how if we didn't get a tree NOW we would never get a tree and we would be stuck with charlie brown's tree and it wouldn't smell good etc etc) SP took me over to the local tree emporium and we picked out a beaut.  I mean Humphrey the tree (its a boy this year, I just know) he is just gorgeous.  And he is quite out of character for me.  I'm generally a fluffy fatty tree kind of girl.  But Humphrey with his sparse Douglass fir branches is skinny and shiny and smells amazing.  And surprisingly taking in water (WHAT?!)  Lets just say that this is quite shocking after last year's tree adventure (in which SP and I got a tree at 10pm and it was raining and the tree guy didn't cut the bottom and then we had a muddy wet tree in our house that was dying because the trunk was sealed and not taking in any water)  Humphrey, my boy, is a big drinker.  Lush.

Kori is so oblivious its amazing.  I mean the fact that destructor herself has not unhinged her jaw and engulfed the entire tree is kind of a christmas miracle in and of itself.  She did for a little while think that every round ornament was a ball but we quickly cured that idea from her head (now she destroys blankets and her own toys etc)

And now, what our apartment looks like after santa and sparkles threw up all over it...

Bowl full of SPARKLES!

Humphrey in all his glory :)
Homemade ornaments because we like the project-ing

Oh heyyyy!

Have you heard of table "scatter"?
This is what it looks like! (and yes that white thing is a candle holder with no candles)

He is affectionately referred to as "Scary Santa"

I did however make SP move the Tree ALL OVER THE APARTMENT before I could be settled in our Christmas Apartment Decorating Implosion.  Humphrey is happily settled in front of the window now I will have you know.

It may be a bit much but it's pretty cheery don't you think?!

Happy Christmas-ing if you're so inclined!

I am Woman, here me...Squeek?!

Yesterday I FINALLY fixed the clock on the microwave at work.

Not only was it off by an hour due to that whole time change thing, its also always been off by about 15mins.  Like 15mins too fast.  Which is just disappointing when you are heating up your lunch at 12:35pm and its actually only 11:20am (yeah I eat lunch at brunch time, so sue me).

Let's not lose the point here people.

Thanksgiving - SoCal Style booyyzzzz

On Wednesday November 23rd around the 1:30pm hour (full of greasy in and out burger I might add) SP and I and Dodo the Dog (and enough belongings for 30 people) drove 9 hours to San Diego for a 72hour hug-eat-athon.

And let me tell you.

It was A-to-the MAZING

I literally gained 3lbs.  And yes I know what literally means I've read THIS

We hugged the parental units and ate so much food and candy.  I mean my house is pretty much food jail (ie there is nothing that even remotely resembles sugar) but my parents' house is where the freed inmates go to feast because it was like processed sugar palooza in there.  And I loved every preservative filled calorie of goodness.  (dudes, pecan pie.  that's all I'm saying)

And then of course we did all of the truly thanksgivingy things that people do during thanksgiving...like I don't know, eat Mexican food for thanksgiving lunch.  (BOMB DIGGITY).  I mean it sounds counter intuitive to eat a meal before eating a meal - but it was the best thing ever.  It's now a tradition.  I deem it so.  And then God said, thou shalt eat California Burritos before the thanksgiving meal.  And they did.  And God saw that it was good.  And it was.  It was OHHH so good.

Pics of the "real" thanksgiving (not the pseudo mexi-thanksgiving)

Then in true thanksgiving tradition (its not a tradition but my mom gets mad when I say we don't have any traditions) we went to see some of our turkey friends at the Wild Animal park (which is now stupidly named the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, say that 5 times fast, or even once).  Which was still pretty awesome, despite one dumb name change.  I do enjoy some wild animals.  I did not enjoy the birds.  But the rest of my family enjoyed feeding the Lorakeets while I tried not to shriek like a 4 year old.  (I concede I did have to leave the enclosure early because I was on the edge of hyperventilating - I think I need bird hypnotherapy).

We also saw some insane art at UCSD.  I'm pretty sure that insane art is the claim to fame for the University of California as a whole.  Amusing for the villagers though.

Art or insanity? You decide!

And.We.Went.To.The.Beach!!!!!
This is in November - I SWEAR!

So is this...what the what?!

 Cutie at the tidepools!

SP at Karl STRAUUSSSS
And I got a new iphone app (pudding) - and its in Korean (i think) so I really have no idea what I'm doing with it...See above, example A.

It feels very indulgent to go to the beach in November.  And actually want to take your shoes off.  It was le fabulous.  It is during these moments that I wonder why I left San Diego (that feeling is fleeting as I'm sitting in sh*tty traffic however).

Besides our millions of activities SP and I also spent about 98% of the time trying to get the insane dog to stop growling at my poor father.  Why is my dog stranger-insane?  Ugh.  My dad tried hard.  I will give him credit.  My dog on the other hand... I think has one of those brains that resets every 30seconds.

Thanksgiving Weekend Synopsis:
Eat, drive, hug, sleep, eat, eat, parade on tv, eat, movies, wild animal park, eat, eat, hugs, sleep, beach, eat, hugs, eat, sleep, eat, hugs, drive, eat, eat, drive, eat, home!

So now I'm basically drinking enough water to drown a small elephant and force feeding SP and myself veggies to try to reverse in small amounts the damage we did to our arteries this weekend.

PS UC Davis is still a powder keg.  See us in the big times here!
PPS I got hired for my job.  w00t employment!
PPPS: My mom gave me this (on loan):

Oh my prettyyyy
Let the MIXING PALOOZA BEGIN.  Send me your KitchenAid recipes stat.  Also this beauty needs a name, accepting suggestions now!
